Sympathy Card Messages

The trick with sympathy messages is to express your feelings of sympathy without offending or using meaningless cliche's. It is difficult to be sympathetic, so writing a message can be just as difficult. Use select words to give encouragement and show support.

Wedding Card Messages

Wedding card messages should show your enthusiasm for what the newlyweds should be excited about. Their new lives together as husband and wife will bring them challenges and joys. Tell them what you want to tell them in just the right words.

Anniversary Card Messages

Anniversaries can be a time of reflection and celebration for the time spent together. Whether you are writing an anniversary card for a boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, or husband, you can get your start with these ideas. Add and edit to your taste.

Thank You Card Messages

Probably the most easily forgotten card, thank you cards give a unique opportunity to show gratitude for another person's generosity or help. Thank you cards can be boring and mundane if done like most. Get away from the typical, "thank you for the sweater" card message.

Baby Card Messages

What can we say about baby card messages except that they should be cute. Of course cute is ambiguous. They could be cute in the literal sense like a teddy bear, cute as in funny, or cute as in sweet. Your baby card message should make you and the baby's mom smile.

Get Well Card Messages

When people are ill, it can be difficult to think of what to say. These messages are almost as difficult to write as sympathy card messages.

Holiday Card Messages

Ah, it's the holiday season and you have mass mailings to do, but you can't think of what you want to say in your holiday card. Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years are also great times for businesses to send cards thanking customers and employees.

Thinking of You Card Messages

I'm Sorry Card Messages

I'm sorry card messages are difficult because you have to use tact and sincerity.  You have to use words to express the guilt, shame, and unease that you feel.  Apologizing is hard enough in person.  Use the tips to help make your message great.

Say What You Want To Say

Most of us speak way more words throughout the day than we write. Even if you think you know how to write well, it may be easier to try saying what you want to say in your card out loud. In other words, for Mother's Day you may only be able to come up with "I love you Mom" if you are writing.

Imagine your mom being in the room. Now tell her. You'll probably come up with, "You don't know the things that keep coming into my mind that you taught me when I was a little kid. Your advice has helped me a lot."

Now, convert these words to written, more poetic sounding words. For example, "You've made my life rich by generously passing your wisdom to me. I think of you and know I have been blessed when you help me in this way even as an adult." Now you have a truly fitting message for your mom to tell her what you want to say in her card.

Ask Why The Person Deserves A Card

Do you buy cards because it's a holiday or because you want to say something meaninful? It is up to you to know why you are giving someone a card. Ask, "Why am I celebrating this? Why am I getting a card?" I did this last time and it kept me from writing a "Mother's Day" sort of message in a birthday card. Birthday cards can be tricky, but are a great opportunity to celebrate and appreciate another person's life or use some humor to see how funny life can be.

Sometimes you don't need to write much in your card. A simple, "I love you and am glad you were born 32 years ago," can be as effective as a longer statement. Keep it simple if you are giving the card to someone who appreciates simplicity.  Greeting cards are simple objects, so you can write a simple greeting in a card.

How to Write Something Funny

The best tool for writing a funny message in someone's greeting card is to use familiarity. Think of something you know that the recieving person is familiar with. Use that topic, information, or situation, to make up something funny. This is going to take some creativity on your part, but communicates to the other person that you thought about your message. It will also give them something to show off all day. "You gotta see what my son wrote in my birthday card."

Most greeting cards use stereotyping to attempt to be funny. For example, I went to choose a Father's Day card and quickly realized that Dad's are stereotyped as being drunk, sports watching, handymen, who are whipped by their wives. I didn't think they were all that funny, but maybe that's because I don't have that view. The point is, to be really funny, think of an inside joke that you and the reciever would get.

How to Make Em Cry With Your Card Message

If you have the lofty goal of making someone cry with your greeting card message, you are going to have to put a little extra effort into your writing. I suggest getting a really great gift, delivering the card in a special way, and writing an extremely personal message. Writing a love poem is a great way to be specific. The more specific you are the more chance of getting a crying receiver. Music is a great manipulator of emotion that musicians know how to use. Use music and other environmental elements, such as candle light, to get someone in the mood before delivering the card.
